Migration from Joomla to WordPress
In a world in which web pages act as a business card for companies, associations and others, it is necessary to keep the pages up to date. Even so, it may happen that even using a platform that works, this is not enough for future projects and a change of platform is chosen.
One of the last projects we've tackled was essentially a platform migration. The original page was set up with Joomla on an Apache server and had to be migrated to another machine. Also, I had to change Joomla by WordPress, preserving the previous work that was there and integrating it with the tools Zoho CRM with whom they began to work. In other words, the house had to be rebuilt, keeping the furniture and adding some home automation extras.
The original page should continue to work until the migration and its changes were done, easy: work in a development environment and then change the addresses. Prepare the server install wordpress, we import Joomla and…it doesn't work like that. Joomla has its way of working, and although it shares some things with Wordpress, one cannot just click on the “Import” button, especially when the original page is large, has a user category system and has been building a community that uses its services.
The easiest was to use the FG Joomla to WordPress plugin, which would do the biggest part of the job. It is easy to use, very intuitive and has several language packs, although the Spanish could use some polishing. The plugin works for both basic pages and others that use plugins such as K2 or Virtuemart, although to add these options you need to use the premium version.
This solved part of the migration, but not all of it. It was still necessary to lay out the page and change part of the own development that there was for the integrations in the CRM, which would take the work out of the server and make it easier to work and access that data, but that is another part that will have its corresponding input.
