How to activate the WordPress Classic Editor?
When we work on WordPress, sometimes we need to tweak the code of our theme and it is common for this option to be disabled. This editor can be found in the Appearance tab, in the “Editor” submenu. In this post we teach you how to activate the WordPress editor in a few simple steps.
What is the WP editor?
The WordPress file editor allows us to access our WP configuration files. We can use it to modify all the parameters of our theme or include new lines of code to optimize the Seo, for example, by fixing bugs in structured data. From here we can access the files functions.php o header.php, so often used.
I can't find the classic editor in WordPress
Well, the problem arises when this option is not available, that is, we do not find the Editor tab in our menu.
In this post we are going to tell you how to reactivate this option in a few simple steps.
First of all, we will check if this option appears in our WP: we look in Appearance – Editor.
Through this option we can access all the files of our website, to include or modify our template code, pages, headers or post among many other options. This is extremely useful when we want to customize certain features or correct problems.
En Millennials Consulting we work daily positioning Seo and the design of many websites made in WP and we recommend having access to this option.
An alternative to this menu is to work directly with the files on the server, via ftp, but if you are not familiar with this environment, we will better explain how to activate the WordPress editor.
As we see in the image, we cannot see the editor in our WP. To activate it, we must access the server and locate the “wp-config.php” file, which can be found in the main folder. In this case, we have used Filezilla as an FTP client.
Next, we edit this file to enable the editor option.
First, let's check that the option already exists in the code. To do this, we press crtl+F and look for define ('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true);
Once the line of code is located, we must put the value to false so that we can see this option again in our WP. In case that line of code doesn't exist, just add it.
We save the changes and that's it, we already have access to our WordPress editor.
