With the use of nofollow links we can better manage crawling by search engines.

The web crawling robots use the links within our page to navigate and access all the content of the website. These robots dedicate a certain time to us for the web crawl and therefore we must know how to manage this time. One of the actions we can do for this is the use of the type of nofollow link. Today we will see how to treat the wordpress menu and nofollow links.

What is a nofollow link?

Nofollow links offer the possibility of indicate to search engines that they do not follow or track that particular link, or what is the same, we are indicating that this url is not important and that they should not waste time following it.

In other words, we can indicate which parts of our website are important and which are not, in this way we will manage the reading time that search engines give us to crawl our website. Default in WordPress, the links are follow so if we do not want a url to be followed by search engines we must explicitly indicate that this link must be nofollow.

It goes without saying that the correct construction of links on our website is very important for the positioning Seo therefore, in addition to creating a correct strategy for Link building On Page, we must attend to what type of link we want to have.

Some common links that should be as nofollow are usually those that lead to the cookie policy pages, legal notice, contact... since these pages, although they show important information about our website, do not do so about the products or services that we offer. we offer, so we are not interested in being tracked. For the latter we can also indicate these pages as noindex.

The correct way to indicate in html a nofollow link to browsers is via the rel=”nofollow” attribute.

How to put nofollow links in the WordPress menu?

WordPress allows us to create content dynamically but sometimes it is a bit cumbersome to indicate certain directives with code. This is not the case since WordPress allows us to activate certain options to be able to make these changes in the menus. Next we will indicate which links are going to be nofollow in our navigation menu.

1. We go to the WP administration panel, appearance >>> Menus.

2. Then click on the top right, Display Options and select the option  Relationship with the link (XFN).

3. Now, we already have the option for each of the menu links. Finally, we indicate how nofollow the link of the menu that we want.

With this action we are better managing the reading time by the search engines, we are already telling them not to waste time reading certain URLs. The main purpose of using the nofollow attribute is to better manage the tracking time and indicate which pages are less important on our website.
